You cannot kill what is already dead,
In that I am safe.
Safe from the claws of the world,
And Myself.
Eyes wide open,
Blinded by sight.
Curtains shading lifeless depths,
Blackened windows that don’t offer views.
Heart still pumping,
Not life but blood.
Not jumping or skipping anymore,
Only silently ticking away to the end.
Lips spilling laughter,
Devoid of mirth.
Notes once filled with life and passion,
Now ghostly echoes of what once was.
The key to my prison I hold,
For that I am forever jailed.
In that I am safe.
Safe from the claws of the world,
And Myself.
Eyes wide open,
Blinded by sight.
Curtains shading lifeless depths,
Blackened windows that don’t offer views.
Heart still pumping,
Not life but blood.
Not jumping or skipping anymore,
Only silently ticking away to the end.
Lips spilling laughter,
Devoid of mirth.
Notes once filled with life and passion,
Now ghostly echoes of what once was.
The key to my prison I hold,
For that I am forever jailed.
